1. Save Cold Storage Space

Space Saving: For the last more than 50 years the cold storage industry were using Bunker Coils in the potato cold storages and the owners were not aware of the modern-technology in the world.

2. Save Electricity Through
    Comressor Motors More Than 20%

It is very important to known the facts before taking any action or decision to make any alteration or change in the refrigeration system of the cold storage. We mention below some of the most significant factors by which a careful analysis can be made to save electricity.

  1. Compressor Motors: The ammonia refrigeration compressors consume 70% to 72% power (electricity), which run 12 to 18 hours a day depending on the loading and out side temperature and humidity conditions.

  2. Importance of Suction Pressure: Potato or various other Multi-purpose cold storages operate at 2 deg.C cold room temperature. Accordingly the best evaporating temperature of ammonia in coils (evaporator) should be 5 deg.C which correspond to 36.8 PSIG (37 PSIG) of ammonia gas.

  3. Why Compressor Runs for Extra-time: However it is not desirable that bunker coils under ideal running (holding period) cannot provide suction pressure better than 22/25 PSIG, which correspond to – 13 and –11 deg.C under such circumstances the compressor capacity drastically goes less than 25 to 30% and to compensate required heat-load compressor/motor has to for run long hours. 3. Save Product Weight Loss

Potato Weight Loss: Colico ammonia Air Cooling Units maintain accurate and desired humidity in cold storage rooms. The American-technology cooling and balanced air circulation of high-efficiency Axial-flow fans has very important role of our advance-technology. Relative humidity is maintained 90% because of uniform airflow through aluminum plate-fins that have mechanical bonding with tubes.

     

Importance of Humidity in Cold Storages: It is bit difficult to explain, for the lay-man to make them understand the acute necessity of moisture level in the perishable products.

It is a known fact that potatoes contain 77.8% water in it, of which most of the people are not aware of this important factor. For example Onion contain 89.4% water, Tomatoes-93.0% and Applies 84.1%, the minimum requirement of “Humidity" in these perishable product cold storage is 86% to 92% apart from storage temperature 2 to 3 deg.C temperature.

Bunker Coils eat-away the moisture: these bunker type coils are always frozen with thick ice which in turn not only form ice-insulation to heat-transfer pipe, but also take out lot of moisture from perishable products.

Bunker Coils create Weight-loss: Pain-tube bunker coils suction temperature is very low 10 to –15 deg.C and most of the time the coils establish heavy and thick frost on plain-tube pipe surface. This continuous process of defrosts and Ice Build-up on pipe extract moisture from stored potatoes, which in turn reduces humidity as well as more than 6% weight-loss of potatoes.
